River Plate Puerto Rico News Release – www.rivercaribe.com

Sunday, March 20, 2011

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands – River Plate Puerto Rico lost 1-0 to the Cayman Islands’ Bodden Town on Sunday night, but advanced to the quarterfinals of the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship 2-1 on aggregate and in turn moved one step closer to reaching the CONCACAF Champions League.

"It was a tough game, they played very physically,” River General Manager Claudio Alvarez-Dunn told primerahora.com’s Estaban Pagan Rivera after the game.

Bodden Town was able to find the breakthrough with 11 minutes to play as they finally beat River goalkeeper Craig Hill, giving the Cayman team hope of sending the game to extra time. River, however, was able to hold on for its aggregate victory.

River will now face Alpha United of Guyana in the tournament’s semifinals. The first leg will be played in Guyana between the 12th-14th of April, with the return leg being played in Puerto Rico between the 22nd-24th of April.

Alpha United received a walkover in the first round against Bassa Sports Club from Antigua and Barbuda.

River opens the 2011 USL PRO season on April 2 when it travels to face Sevilla FC Puerto Rico.
