TAMPA, Fla. – The Major Indoor Soccer League announced on Tuesday that Milwaukee Wave forward Ian Bennett had been named the league’s Player of the Week for the 12th week of the 2011-12 season. Bennett had a standout week, recording 15 points in three games as the Wave maintained their lead in the MISL Central Division with victories against Rochester and Wichita.
Bennett opened the week with two goals and two assists in the Wave’s 23-10 victory against the Lancers last Monday, and then put in a pair of strong performance as Milwaukee split a weekend doubleheader on the road against the Wings. Bennett had two goals and four assists in the two contests, assisting on Joe Hammes’ 3-pointer that proved to be the game-winning goal on Saturday night.
Bennett has been a consistent performer for the Wave this season, recording points in 11 of the Wave’s 14 games this season. He currently leads the team with 38 points, having scored 12 goals, including three 3-pointers, and added 11 assists.
Other players considered for the weekly award included the Rochester Lancers’ Lubo Kocic, who had eight points during the week. Kocic had a six-point night against Syracuse on Saturday night, including scoring the game-winning goal in overtime. Wichita’s Victor Quiroz also had a standout week, recording an eight-point night in the Wings’ 18-16 win against the Wave on Friday night, while Baltimore’s Max Ferdinand had a hat trick in his side’s victory against Norfolk. Bennett’s teammate Marco Terminesi was also among the contenders, recording a nine-point game in the Wave’s victory in Rochester, while Syracuse’s Andriy Budnyy had a hat trick in the Silver Knights’ defeat against the Lancers and Missouri’s Bato Radoncic had a pair of goals in his debut for the club in their victory against Norfolk.
The MISL season continues with six games this week, beginning on Wednesday night as Syracuse travels to face the Missouri Comets at the Independence Events Center. The Baltimore Blast also host another pair of games at 1st Mariner Arena on Friday and Saturday night as Norfolk and Rochester visit. Rochester will also visit the SharX at the Norfolk Scope Arena on Sunday afternoon as they try to hold on to second place in the Eastern Division.
In the Central Division, the Milwaukee Wave and Wichita Wings meet again on Thursday night at Hartman Arena with the Wings aiming to close the gap on the Missouri Comets. The Wave then return home on Sunday to host Syracuse at U.S. Cellular Arena. Five of the week’s six games can be seen on MISL Live (www.misllivesoccer.com), the league’s free online video service.
