HAMILTON, Ont. – Hamilton FC is proud to announce that Evan James, pictured left, was selected by the Montreal Impact as the first overall pick in the recent Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft.
After a strong performance and two great goals at the 2012 MLS Combine, James was widely anticipated to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft on January 12. He narrowly missed out on one of the top 38 spots, but Impact manager Jesse Marsch announced the 21-year-old James as the first pick at the Supplemental Draft.
A very quick and technically sound player, James impressed numerous scouts at the Combine in Florida. In his first season in PDL with Hamilton FC, he contributed two great goals in eight games, including the leveler in a 3-3 road draw against the Chicago Fire Premier.
"It is such an honor and I am so grateful to be deemed someone with enough talent to be wanted by an MLS team,” James said. “I want to thank Hamilton FC for getting me prepared for this past college season. The club has a fantastic program with a great group of players and staff. I wish them all the best in this upcoming season."
Prior to joining Hamilton FC, James played his youth soccer at Oakville S.C. and Mississauga S.C. All of us at HFC wish Evan the best of luck as he takes this important next step in his soccer career.
