MISL News Release
Wednesday, December 21, 2011
TAMPA, Fla. – The Major Indoor Soccer League has a packed holiday for its fans, with a pair of games this week to be followed by six contests leading up to New Year’s Day as the regular season approaches its halfway point.
The action kicks off on Thursday night at Blue Cross Arena as the Rochester Lancers try to bolster their position in the Eastern Division when they host the Norfolk SharX. Coming off an 18-14 victory against in-state rival Syracuse on Saturday afternoon that moved them into second place, the Lancers can also try to close the gap on the division-leading Baltimore Blast.
The Lancers and Missouri Comets will be the busiest teams during the next two weeks, each playing three times. Rochester will also host the Milwaukee Wave next Tuesday night, before travelling to face the SharX on Thursday, Dec. 29.
The Comets get their holiday slate underway on Friday night as they travel to face Syracuse. That is followed by a home-and-home series against the Wichita Wings, which could have a big say in which side reaches the MISL Playoffs. Wichita has won three of its past four games, gradually improving as it hits its stride in its return to the league. Trailing the Comets by three games in the Central Division, LeBaron Hollimon’s side could cut into the gap greatly with a pair of victories in those matchups.
The holiday schedule concludes on New Year’s Eve with a great doubleheader of action that can be seen on MISL Live (www.misllivesoccer.com) with Syracuse hosting Norfolk at 1 p.m. ET and then a rematch of the 2011 MISL Championship Game between the Baltimore Blast and the Milwaukee Wave at 3 p.m. ET. In all, seven of the holiday contests will be available on the league’s free video service.
Should the Wave get past Rochester next Tuesday, the New Year’s Eve contest will match the team with the best record in the league in Miwaukee with the team with the best road record in Baltimore. While the Wave have made an impressive 7-0 start to the season, Baltimore is undefeated on the road (6-0). With the return of Marco Terminesi to the Wave’s lineup after being absent for the start of the season due to injury, the contest will be a great way to conclude 2011.
